What happens when you use Compress PDF
Your PDF is uploaded to PlayWithPDF's server for in-house compression. With a size target, the engine tries a bounded set of settings and checks the result. Unsupported documents are rejected. A service outage may use a limited browser rewrite.

Known limitations and troubleshooting
- The browser fallback may produce little reduction because it rewrites rather than recompresses every embedded image.
- Already optimized or text-only PDFs may not become much smaller.
- Browser-only mode does not optimize images toward the selected upload limit.
- Some modern PDF structures cannot be verified by the installed parser and are rejected instead of rewritten.
